  • Focused on driving comfort: optimised damping characteristics offer a smoother driving experience

  • Consistent high performance: anti-rust protection, temperature-resistant premium oil and reinforced materials ensure long-lasting, reliable performance

  • Simple installation: innovative C-shaped design on the front shock absorber enables easy side installation

MEYLE has expanded its leading portfolio to include a new shock absorber set suitable for the Tesla Model Y, complementing its existing range for the Tesla Model 3 and addressing a growing gap in the market. This new development combines enhanced driving comfort with reliable stability. In addition, a modified design of the front shock absorber helps to reduce installation time in the workshop.

‘As an SUV, the Model Y brings considerably more weight onto the road than a conventional saloon and is often subject to high levels of stress in everyday driving. This is also reflected in the suspension,’ explains Sönke Schwenck, Head of Cooling, Filter and Damping at MEYLE. ‘Feedback from the Tesla community, along with consumer reports, show that the driving experience, particularly in the earlier models, is often perceived as uncomfortable. We have addressed both issues in our product development: improved performance, greater comfort, without compromising on driving stability.’

This reinforces a strong business opportunity for the independent aftermarket. Shock absorbers typically fail at around 80,000 kilometres, depending on driving conditions and individual patterns of use. This creates significant potential, particularly for vehicles such as the Tesla Model Y. The development of the new MEYLE shock absorbers was driven in part by feedback from many Model Y drivers who find the OE suspension uncomfortable.

Optimised damping with high stability

In addition to high-quality materials, the MEYLE shock absorbers feature optimised characteristics that absorb bumps in the road more effectively than OE components. Independent testing by DEKRA also confirms the greater stress resistance of the shock absorber fork. The more balanced damping characteristics also help reduce stress on surrounding suspension components, such as the control arms and bearings – an important factor, as these components are prone to wear in the Model Y.

Designed for reliable performance even at cold temperatures

To meet the specific demands of electric vehicles, the shock absorbers feature a corrosion-resistant cathodic dip coating. A specially formulated oil ensures consistent damping performance even at low temperatures, which is particularly relevant for northern European markets. A reinforced housing and a 16 mm piston rod further enhance durability under demanding conditions.

Time-saving installation through the modified design

The front shock absorber features a two-piece C-shaped design, based on the bracket of the Tesla Model 3, which has been further developed and adapted specifically for the installation requirements of the Tesla Model Y. While the OE part must bypass the tight space surrounding the drive shaft, the MEYLE shock absorber can be installed from the side. An extended piston rod thread, the included installation materials and an oval socket spanner help to speed up installation, saving workshops time and increasing profitability.

Growing opportunity: electric mobility in the independent aftermarket

According to Mordor Intelligence*, the European automotive aftermarket is set to grow from USD 107.8 billion (2025) to USD 126.2 billion (2030) – driven in part by the rising demand for servicing electric and hybrid vehicles. With this new application for the Tesla Model Y, MEYLE is further expanding its presence in this growing segment.

MEYLE shock absorbers for the Tesla Model Y are suitable for vehicles of all model years and will be available from specialist retailers from May.
